    German renewable energy association reported that the share of wind, hydro and solar power consumed in the electricity, heating and transport sectors climbed from 14.8 percent in the first half of 2017 to 15.2 percent in the same period in 2017.
    The biggest increase was seen in the electricity sector, where the share of end energy consumption generated by renewables rose by 2.4 percent to 35.1 percent.
    Denmark got 42 percent of its electricity from wind turbines in 2015, and that's not just a bunch of hot air. Even with two wind farms offline, that's the highest percent of wind power ever achieved worldwide.     Unfortunately, the story is different with developing countries typical to mention is my country Nigeria the most populous black country which is blessed with enormous natural resources and renewable energy sources but yet to be full exploited.

    From a live telecast I watched of Nigeria's Federal Government budget passed to the senate for consideration and approval, a whopping 17 billion naira (47.2 Million U.S Dollars) was earmarked for purchase of Fuel (Premium Motor Spirit) and Generator sets for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
    This portrays a widespread epileptic power supply across regions of Nigeria which is very true since the Federal level has showed a high level of distrust in the hope of getting efficient power supply from the Electricity Distribution board of the country.

    Nigeria flares about 17.2 billion metric tonnes of natural gas annually into the atmosphere according to the Nigeria Reformer News Online.
    This flaring equals one quarter of the power consumption of the entire African continent. Sadly the Oil and Gas companies are not focused on the environmental hazards people are prone to from the flaring of gases particularly those living close to the company sites. This is very pronounced in oil rich regions of Nigeria like Rivers State, Delta State, Bayelsa State and Akwa Ibom State.

    Gas flaring poses a devastating impact on the immediate environment releasing harmful pollutants into the air thus, polluting the air, water and even food consumed.
    These harmful pollutants from gas flaring can alter climatic and weather patterns over a period of time causing acid rain. Note: Acid rain falls like normal rain but it is polluted with oxides of Sulphur and Nitrogen obtained from harmful environmental practices such as; Gas flaring.

    Acid rain is simply a result from the harmful effects of fossil fuel and it kills aquatic lives especially when sea water gets polluted by it. Acid rain also inhibits the growth of plants thus, posing a threat to the economy.
    Rather than diversifying to renewable energy sources for distribution and wealth creation, Nigeria's government is still committed towards increasing it's gas production as well as exploitation of other nonrenewable energy sources such as; Coal and Crude oil.

    Nigeria's government have disbursed funds to support academic research aimed at searching for crude oil deposits in the Northern region comprising; Chad basin, Sokoto basin, Benue trough and Bida basin and sustaining the oil explored from the Southern region.

    Clean, safe energy sources is needed as the foremost approach in combating climate change and ensuring a cleaner and greener earth.
    This approach in reducing climate change effects is obtainable and very possible in Nigeria especially when adhered to and practically implemented.
    Nigeria has lots of water resources and dams which could be harnessed for economic benefits.

    Niger State located at North Central Nigeria has three dams (Shiroro, Jebba, and Kanji dam) thus, earning the state a slogan 'Power State'. Yet, there seem to be no iota of stable power supply in the state and other states in Nigeria as the dams were supposed to be used for full time hydroelectric power generation but unfortunately couldn't be due to political influence from the top politicians who wants credit and benefits accruing to masses for themselves.

    To conquer this challenge, blockchain technology as a decentralized distributed system of transaction which ensures trust, equity and fairness is an important tool to minimize the influence from Politicians in diverting funds meant for the masses.
    This tool adoption could be in form of recording financial transactions from the hydroelectricity board using a blockchain system with no third party interference. Cryptography and Blockchain technology can be very effective in ensuring a smooth running of Renewable energy adoption by Governments and World leaders.

    Scientific exposition (Science Expo) organized in Schools can be a great way in increasing renewable energy adoption amongst relevant stakeholders and Government too.
    This can be achieved by organizing competitions among schools with a focus on renewable energy project with prizes for the winning schools and other participating schools involved.

    Innovative drama or communication arts targeted at promoting renewable energy adoption could be acted by schools and telecasted live for a teeming audience in different television channels for wide coverage and dispersal of the news about the disadvantages of fossil fuel and benefits of renewable energy.
