Ondo: Kidnappers Demand N100m To Release Three Abducted Civil Servants

Three civil servants, working with the Ondo State Government, were kidnapped in the last weekend,Nigerian Cable News online reported.

The kidnappers who caught their victims
along Owo/Ikare road have also demanded for a ransom of N100million.

This development came just as a lecturer, working with Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, (RUGIPO), Mr Michael Olopete, earlier kidnapped at the weekend, regained his freedom yesterday.

The three civil servants, who were abducted on Friday night, have been identified as Mr Bunmi Falodun, his wife Ronke and in-law, Mr. Ayewumi Ogunsemore. The three were returning from a social function at Akoko area, when they were abducted at Oba-Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Mr Femi Agagu, said that Olopete had been released. Agagu, was however, silent on whether a ransom was paid before Olopete was released. But a source at RUGIPO disclosed that a ransom of N5 million was paid before Olopete was released by his captors.

However, the kidnappers of the three civil servants had demanded for N100 million ransom before they could be released. Falodun, a former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), his wife and his in-law, Ogunsemore were still with their abductors as at the time of filing this report.

A group, Sunshine Liberation Front, worried by the increase cases of kidnapping in the state, has called for the redeployment of the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju. The group said the police in the state have failed in protecting the lives and properties of the people.

The group’s Coordinator, Mr. Akinyele Akinwale, said: “these kidnapping cases in the state, suggest that there is a ‘ring of collaboration’ and connivance between these kidnappers and the top echelon of security agencies in the state.” The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, debunked the conspiracy theory explaining that the CP had been working tirelessly to ensure criminals were flushed out of the state.
